The small flat-head screwdriver is useful not just for driving screws but also for depressing zip-tie tabs to loosen them. I haven’t used the wire stripper but the screwdriver is solid and I’ve also used it successfully as a scraper/small pry bar.Īdjacent is the can opener and bottle opener I haven’t had use for either but they appear serviceable. Next to the knife is a large flat-head screwdriver with built-in wire stripper notch.

The knife feels slender but sturdy, suitable for most cutting tasks although as with any multi-tool knife I avoid rotational/torque forces as much as possible. The NXT’s sole knife is a 2.25” combination (serrated/plain edged) blade accessed via a thumb hole near the middle of the spine.

The plier grip handles are smooth and comfortable to hold with less sharp edges pressing against your palm than some other multi-tools (such as Gerber’s own Center-Drive, itself a fantastic tool despite the sharper grip).Īll other tools are on the outside of the body allowing you to access the tools without having to open the handles. The handles open firmly without feeling too stiff and “click” into a fully open position. The needle-nose pliers include built-in regular pliers and a wire cutter. The NXT is a butterfly-open tool built around a pair of spring-assisted needle-nose pliers. Although it may not be beefy enough to sustain major forces (especially torque forces) it will handle the vast majority of what you’ll need to do on a daily basis with ease while being compact and light enough that you’ll forget it’s in your pocket until you need it. I consider it a “normal duty” tool, neither heavy-duty not light duty. If you read my article about multi-tools you’ll know that checks all the boxes of what’s important in a multi-tool! Available from several major retailers and of course from Gerber itself, the NXT is obtainable at very affordable prices. The Gerber Suspension NXT (herein “NXT”) is a simple, lightweight, affordable multi-tool that comes standard with a pocket clip. Here’s why I think it’s a fantastic option and deserving of a place in your pocket (or purse for the ladies ??). The one I carry every day is a Gerber Suspension NXT (pronounced “next”). I’m a big believer in multi-tools! I think you should carry a multi-tool as I explained here.
